Gout 250 mg bd for 1 wk, followed by 500 mg bd thereafter. May be increased by 0.5 g-increments every 4 wk w/in tolerance if symptoms are not controlled or 24-hr uric acid excretion is not >700 mg. Max: Not >2 g daily. Probenecid & penicillin therapyAdult 2 g daily in divided doses. Childn 2-14 yr Initially 25 mg/kg daily. Maintenance: 40 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses.
Hypersensitivity. Exacerbation of gout. Concomitant use w/ MTX, salicylates. Not recommended in conjunction w/ penicillin in known renal impairment. Women of childbearing potential. Pregnancy & lactation.
